Getting HVAC Right From the Start
New construction HVAC is your one clean shot at a comfortable home. The system is one of the most expensive and most impactful components of any new build, and it’s far easier to get right before the walls close up than to fix afterward. Plan it well, and you’ll have efficient, quiet climate control for 15 to 20 years. Get it wrong, with oversized equipment, undersized ducts, or poor airflow design, and you’ll spend years fighting hot spots, cold spots, humidity problems, and energy bills that don’t match the home’s rating.

What New Construction HVAC Includes
System sizing: every new home project starts with a thorough evaluation of the home’s square footage, insulation R-values, window specifications, orientation, ceiling heights, and Acadiana’s climate conditions. We follow ACCA Manual J protocols for load calculations, because getting the capacity right is the foundation that everything else is built on.
Duct design. We size every duct run to deliver balanced airflow to every room while keeping duct runs as short and direct as possible. Our in-house sheet metal shop fabricates custom ductwork to match the design, with no compromises forced by stock sizes.
Equipment selection: based on our evaluation, we recommend equipment that’s properly sized for the home. As a Lennox® Premier Dealer, we offer the full Lennox residential lineup. We also install Trane, Carrier, Mitsubishi, and other major brands. We’ll walk you through efficiency tiers, features, and pricing so you can make an informed choice.
Our factory-trained technicians handle every phase of the installation: setting the air handler or furnace, placing the outdoor condenser, running refrigerant lines, installing ductwork, wiring the thermostat, and connecting the condensate drainage. We coordinate with the builder and other trades to stay on schedule.
Commissioning: after installation, we test the entire system: verify refrigerant charge, measure airflow at every register, check static pressure, test all modes of operation, and calibrate the thermostat. The system doesn’t get handed off until it performs to specification.
Common Mistakes We Prevent
Years of experience have shown us where new construction HVAC goes wrong:
- Oversized equipment. Builders sometimes default to larger systems “just in case.” An oversized AC or heat pump short-cycles, fails to dehumidify properly, and wears out faster. In South Louisiana’s humidity, proper sizing is critical for moisture control.
- Undersized returns: insufficient return air is one of the most common problems in new construction. Rooms with closed doors and no return path build positive pressure, forcing conditioned air out through gaps and reducing system efficiency.
- Ductwork shortcuts, flex duct is cheaper and faster to install, but it creates more airflow resistance than hard duct. We use hard duct for main trunk lines and limit flex runs to short branch connections where they’re appropriate.
- Poor equipment placement can cause problems. Where the air handler and condenser sit affects noise, accessibility for maintenance, and duct run efficiency. We work with builders during the design phase to optimize placement.
Building in South Louisiana
Acadiana’s climate creates specific HVAC design challenges that don’t exist in other parts of the country:
- Humidity control: proper equipment sizing and airflow design are the first line of defense against indoor humidity. We can also spec whole-home dehumidifiers into the design for homes that need the highest level of moisture control.
- Attic conditions. Most Acadiana homes have attic-mounted ductwork that bakes in summer heat. We insulate duct runs to minimize heat gain and can recommend sealed attic strategies when the building design allows it.
- Ventilation requirements: modern tight-construction homes need controlled ventilation to maintain indoor air quality without relying on random air leakage. ASHRAE sets the ventilation standards we follow when designing fresh air systems for new homes.
