When Is the Best Time to Schedule an AC Tune-Up in Louisiana?
Late February through early April is the sweet spot. Book your AC tune-up after the last real cold snap and before the first 85-degree week, so any problem gets found while the system is resting instead of when your house is 82 degrees inside.
Why Spring Beats Summer
In Acadiana, cooling season doesn’t politely ease in. One week you’re running the heat, and a few weeks later the humidity is back and the AC is working all afternoon. Once that happens, every HVAC company in the area is booked up with breakdown calls, and a routine tune-up can wait a week or more for an opening.
Scheduling in spring gets you three things:
- Shorter waits. Techs have open time slots before the rush.
- Time to fix what they find. A weak capacitor (the small part that helps the motors start) or a low refrigerant charge is a cheap repair in March. In July, it’s the part that quits on the hottest day of the year.
- A clean start. The outdoor coil gets cleared of winter debris and spring pollen, and the condensate drain (the line that carries water away from the indoor unit) gets flushed before it has months of Gulf Coast humidity to clog it.
What If You Missed Spring?
Then book it now. Fall is a perfectly good second choice in Louisiana. Your AC just finished a long, hard summer, and a fall visit catches wear before next year rather than after something breaks. It’s also a good time to have the heating side looked at before the first cold front.
The only bad time to schedule a tune-up is never. Most manufacturers, Lennox included, expect yearly professional maintenance, and some warranties ask for proof of it.
DIY or Call a Pro?
Some upkeep is yours. Change the air filter every one to three months, keep a couple of feet clear around the outdoor unit, and rinse the coil gently with a garden hose after heavy pollen. That helps, but it isn’t a tune-up. Checking refrigerant, testing electrical parts, and measuring how well the system is actually cooling take a licensed tech with the right gauges.
Our AC tune-up covers all of that. We’re working in Lafayette, Abbeville and across Acadiana. If you’d rather not track the calendar yourself, a maintenance plan includes two visits a year, one before cooling season and one before heating season. We usually have a tune-up offer posted on our specials page, so check it before you call.
