Why is My Air Conditioner Making Noises?
If your air conditioner is making strange noises, it’s important to know if it’s a serious problem or not. There are some common noises they make, and the sound you hear can tell you what the issue is likely to be.
Clanging or Banging
You’ll hear this sound when your outdoor AC unit is operating. You won’t hear it when your thermostat is on FAN. It’s likely the fan blades are hitting something. This could be a stick or the fan is unbalanced. Turn your AC off and call an HVAC company.
Screeching
This occurs when your AC turns on and you hear a loud screeching coming from the outdoor AC unit. Most likely the fan motor bearings are worn out, and you need to have the motor replaced. Leave your air conditioning on if you have to, but have a technician fix the problem as soon as possible.
F & R Air Conditioning, Inc. in Abbeville, LA, can diagnose and fix any air conditioner problem you have. Our experienced technicians are familiar with all makes and models of air conditioners.
Screaming
This sound also occurs in the outdoor AC unit when it turns on. It will probably last 10-15 seconds before it stops. The problem is the compressor has too much pressure. As this situation is extremely dangerous, turn your AC off until it can be serviced by a professional.
Clicking
If you hear clicking when your AC is running, it’s probably being caused by a small object in the outdoor AC unit’s fan. Turn off your system and look to see if it’s something you can remove. If you hear clicking and your AC won’t turn on, there’s an electrical problem. It won’t be usable until it’s serviced.
