What SEER rating should I choose for Louisiana?
In Louisiana's hot, humid climate, we recommend at least SEER 16 for good efficiency. SEER 18-20+ units offer the best long-term savings, especially with our cooling season running from April through October. Higher SEER systems also tend to dehumidify better, which matters as much as temperature here.
What's the difference between SEER and SEER2?
In 2023, the Department of Energy replaced SEER with SEER2, which uses a more realistic test that accounts for actual ductwork resistance instead of perfect lab conditions. The number looks lower but the equipment performs the same: a system previously rated 20 SEER is roughly 19 SEER2. Everything sold today is rated in SEER2, and this calculator uses the SEER2 standard.
